Since the organization began on July 10, 2018, the core of Rockton Strong has been 5-7 committed volunteers who have steered the organization from just an idea into a successful non-profit organization that now has a significant voice in the Rockton community. Before forming the nonprofit, many of us were involved in getting the word out and formulating strategies to stop asphalt production in the Rockton community.
As with any nonprofit, in order to succeed in the long term, we need to be adding new volunteers and expanding our leadership team. We expect things to start getting busier in the coming months as we slowly transition from the discovery phase of the legal case into the litigation phase.
We would like to begin assembling a list of committed individuals, in and around the Rockton area, who are interested in becoming volunteers! We love the community we represent and recognize there are many among us who have SO much to offer. We are looking for people who would be a good fit. We look for people who:
• Are strategic thinkers. It’s important to have the ability to look beyond the next week and month, and work on moving Rockton Strong forward, beyond the asphalt fight.
• Have some time to give. This isn’t a “big ask”. Being able to give a few hours a week is acceptable.
• Get along well with others. It’s important to be able to disagree without being disagreeable. We are all on the same side. It’s important to be able to disagree (that’s a good thing) and then remain friends and a positive part of the organization.
• Are available for occasional meetings.
• Have an interest in the community, and a deep concern about our quality of life.
• May have an area of expertise. This isn’t something that’s mandatory – we’ve all been able to learn things on the fly. But if you have a skill to offer, that’s great!
If this describes you, we’re interested! We don’t exactly know what types of tasks or positions are needed just yet – we first would like to have a database of people. Tasks could be anything from stuffing envelopes, attending community / political meetings, or even playing a part on the leadership team. We promise that you’ll have fun, you’ll be rewarded, and have the potential for lifelong friendships!
